Great Progress On The Arc’s Priority Bills

ohc class photoS1179 / H1932 passed through the Joint Committee on Public Health and is on its way! We have had great support this session for the medical and health professional training bill focusing in on the unique health care needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism. This legislation provides a certification through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts using the Operation House Call training model. Thank you to our dedicated leaders at the state house, Senator Jason Lewis, Senator Barbara L’Italien, and Rep Carolyn Dykema for their insights and collaboration. The Arc is thankful for the support of our constituents, the Operation House Call families across Massachusetts and our Government Affairs Committee.

The Arc is happy to report that in addition to our Operation House Call bill moving out of committee, two of our other top priority bills have passed favorably out of committee and are on their way to Ways and Means.

House Bill 4040 Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment (ICE) has passed favorably out of the Joint Committee for Higher Education. Along with the dedicated bill sponsors, Rep Tom Sannicandro and Senator Barbara L’Italien, The Arc successfully advocated for ICE expansion. We are grateful for our constituent involvement in testimony and outreach to their legislators.

Senate Bill 708; it passed through the Joint Committee on Housing this week and is on its way to the Senate Ways and Means Committee. The Arc and Autism Housing Pathways have been working together with our constituents and legislative leaders to advocate for this bill.
