Marylou Sudders, the state’s former mental health commissioner, will be appointed secretary of Health and Human Services by Governor Elect Charlie Baker, according to a post by the Boston Herald. Most recently, Mary Lou served as CEO of the Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
Ms. Sudders is presently a professor of health and mental health at Boston College’s Graduate School of Social Work.
Sudders is the first woman to be named to Baker’s cabinet, and would take on the role Baker held during his tenure under former Gov. Bill Weld. Baker also served as Secretary of Administration and Finance.
Leo Sarkissian, Executive Director at The Arc noted, “Mary Lou Sudders is a very knowledgeable and capable leader. We have worked well with her in the past and look forward to working with her in this new role.”
