This summer is shaping up to be a busy one at The Arc of Massachusetts. The Arc has been putting the final touches on plans for new offices and a resource center to be built on the site of the current headquarters in Waltham.
“We are hoping to have a late fall date for the groundbreaking,” said Executive Director Leo Sarkissian. “The new space will allow The Arc to remain at the forefront of the struggle to build better lives for all members of the community. New challenges require The Arc to have an up-to-date facility that can better serve our mission.”
The Arc’s present building was originally a private home that has undergone numerous renovations to accommodate an ever-expanding array of needs and functions. The building provides meeting space and training facilities that serve dozens of stakeholders in the disability community, in addition to administrative offices and being a resource center.
To support the construction effort, The Arc of Massachusetts has launched the Home for the Future Capital Campaign. The Campaign seeks to raise $1.2 million to build the new statewide headquarters building. “The new building will benefit all in the disability community and we will be asking all members of the community to support the Home for the Future Capital Campaign,” noted Katrin Aback, Director of Development. “There is a giving opportunity that is right for everyone. Gifts big and small are welcome! They all bring us closer to reaching our goal.”
The new 3,600 square foot building will be fully accessible to people with a range of disabilities and will significantly increase our capacity. It will allow The Arc of Massachusetts to hold meetings with dozens of partner agencies, host legislators and supporters in comfort, conduct efficient legislative outreach through the use of the latest technology, offer a venue for workshops for family members and professionals, and provide a suitable work environment for the staff, volunteers and work-study students.
Daniel Burke, President & CEO of Lifeworks Inc. and The Arc of South Norfolk recently observed that “From the beginning, The Arc of Massachusetts has always promoted and strived for inclusiveness and collaboration. The new building will literally be built on those principles by creating office and meeting space that is fully accessible to all.”
You can help to keep The Arc of Massachusetts as effective and dynamic in the coming years as it has been for the past 60 years by supporting the Home for the Future Campaign with a gift.
