Great News for Donors who need to take an IRA distribution!
For donors age 70½ or older, giving just became easier! This week the on again/off again IRA Charitable Rollover was made permanent. This tax provision allows individuals age 70½ or older to make a gift of up to $100,000 from their traditional IRA to qualified nonprofit organizations, including The Arc of Massachusetts.
If you choose to make a gift through your IRA, there are a couple of things that you need to know. First, by making a gift directly from your IRA, the distribution will not be included as income on your taxes and you will not be able to deduct the contribution from your taxes. Second, in order to not have the distribution count as income, you must direct your IRA administrator to send the contribution directly to The Arc of Massachusetts. If you receive the disbursement and then give it to The Arc, it will count as income.
This is a great way for individuals who are required to take an IRA distribution to make a gift and that will have an immediate impact on The Arc’s mission and advocacy!
