FY 19 State Budget: The Arc Supported Amendments

On Friday, April 13, 2018, House of Representatives members submitted 1400 amendments to the recently released House Ways and Means Committee FY 19 budget. We have actively encouraged House members to sign on as cosponsors to seven of those amendments. These amendments ask that funding be increased for budget line items affecting supporting families services and supporting adult services. We encourage all to contact their representatives to sign onto to these amendments if their member has not already done so for each of the amendments. Continue reading

House Ways & Means Committee Budget Announced

The Arc of Massachusetts (The Arc) celebrates the release of the Massachusetts House Ways and Means Budget announced by Chair Jeffrey Sánchez. Leo Sarkissian, Executive Director of The Arc, stated, “Chair Sánchez and the House Ways/Means Committee members not only recognized the importance of Turning 22 for graduating students with special needs, but have raised Family Support and Employment funding by a total of 2 Million dollars.” Continue reading

Janet Rico Honored

Chair of The Arc of Massachusetts Steering Committee on Disability Policy and Advocacy Janet Rico was presented with the 2018 Allen Crocker M.D. Health Services Award at the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) State Wide Advisory Council Celebration.  Janet, the Assistant Dean of Graduate Nursing at Northeastern’s LaBouve School, has had two different tenures on The Arc’s Governing Board.  She serves on the Board of Fallon Health and on the PCA Workforce Council. 40th Annual Legislative Reception: Increasing Expectations, Providing Opportunities

This week for a change, I’m sharing the words of three other individuals that spoke yesterday during the 40th Annual Legislative Reception, held by the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council and The Arc of Massachusetts. We recognized Senator Jamie Eldridge and Representative Denise Garlick, and ceremony participants included Governor Charlie Baker, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, and Senator Karen Spilka. 40th Annual Legislative Reception: 2018 Legislators Of The Year

Representative Denise Garlick and Senator Jamie Eldridge were honored as Legislators of the Year by The Arc of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council at the 40th Annual Legislative Reception at the State House. Each has been a strong advocate for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. Their efforts represent their strong commitment to a variety of social justice issues which they’ve championed for their constituents and for the Commonwealth. Continue reading
