Secretary of Health and Human Services Mary Lou Sudders held her state wide stakeholder call to review the Governor’s budget, House 1. The Arc appreciates the specific attention given to the Department of Developmental Disabilities, especially in terms of the DESE/DDS program which was funded with an additional $4 million. This additional funding will translate to many families that need meaningful supports in order to avoid out of home placements.
The Arc is also grateful for increased funding in Autism Omnibus. This additional nearly $7 million will help individuals maintain services. The other significant budget allocations will help with the range of needs for adults regarding housing, community day and employment supports, and transportation.
Our work now is to continue advocating for the maintenance of these allocations and any gaps in funding; and to help bring attention to the workforce crisis through our legislation. Our entire bill platform will be released in the next couple of days.
As you know, our priority continues to be Nicky’s Law. In addition to our Workforce legislation, we will also have bills related to HealthCare bills, Safety, Housing, Education, and more. Stay tuned for more information in the coming days.
