I am sorry to let you know that The Arc of Massachusetts is canceling its 65th Anniversary Celebration, which was scheduled for Thursday, March 26 at the Boston Marriott Newton. The cancellation is in response to mounting concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus. A state of emergency was declared in Massachusetts on Tuesday.
While we are deeply disappointed, the Board of Directors and staff leadership felt we needed to take this proactive step out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and well-being of our guests, many of whom are caregivers to family members who have disabilities or are elderly or are professional caregivers providing critical assistance to people with disabilities.
Our annual event is the biggest single source of revenue for The Arc of Massachusetts. Canceling undoubtedly will have a serious negative impact on the funding that sustains our advocacy, outreach, and education. In addition, we are missing the opportunity to have meaningful engagement with our donors, advocates, families, and those who have been making a difference for people with disabilities these past 65 years.
We are asking you and everyone who believes in the importance of our mission to step up and help us fill the gap. The people we fight for each and every day are depending on all of us to continue our crucial work. Let’s not let them down.
Make a gift to the annual fund. Bid on great items in the online auction. Participate in the fund-a-need appeal.
We have incredible supporters – individuals and families, corporations, agencies – and hope they will understand and increase their support for our work on behalf of people with intellectual and development disabilities and autism. We would like to thank our lead sponsors for their generosity and commitment: State Street Corporation, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, NTT Data, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Raytheon, Affinia Financial Group, EY, KPMG, and Amego, Inc.
The online auction and Fund-A-Need planned for the event on March 26 will still take place. New content will be released daily through March 26 on www.arcmass.org and our social media platforms.
