Advocates for Autism of Massachusetts (AFAM) held its 15th Annual Advocacy Day at the State House on April 11, 2019. The event was hosted by Heather Hegedus and Gyasi Burks-Abbott.
AFAM highlighted the legislative and policy accomplishments of the last 15 years, including Autism Insurance and the Autism Omnibus laws. AFAM also called attention to the workforce shortage crisis and the urgent need to pass Nicky’s Law.
A crowd of over 300 filled the Great Hall of Flags and honored Chair Kay Khan for her exceptional work. Chair Khan has been at the helm of the Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities for 10 years and has worked tirelessly to pass important legislation through her committee. Last session, that included Nicky’s Law.
Nicky’s Law will be in front of her committee this session on April 30.
