Charting the LifeCourse: Self-Advocates, Mentors Learn About Developing A Vision for a Good Life

On Thursday, July 22, over 60 self-advocates and mentors attended a kickoff event to learn about Charting the LifeCourse Frameworks and Tools.

The webinar was led by LifeCourse Nexus staff member Barbara Sapharas, and was translated into Spanish and American Sign Language. Participants learned strategies for developing a vision for a good life, letting others know what you want and don’t want, and how to develop a plan based on your strengths, relationships, community connections, technology, and services. There was much discussion about what was important to them and what words best describe their strengths.

The kickoff will be followed up with extended sessions, providing opportunities for eight individuals and their mentors to become Ambassadors and leaders in their communities.

This session was organized by Mass Advocates Standing Strong, the Department of Developmental Services, the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council, and The Arc of Massachusetts with funds from the Massachusetts Partnership to Transition to Employment.
