Working with The Arc of Massachusetts, Representative Christine Barber drafted a letter to Governor Charlie Baker, asking for I/DD and autism to be added to the vaccine eligibility comorbidity list so that our community can be prioritized for vaccination.
Representative Barber sent the letter to her colleagues in the House, and Senator Joan Lovely circulated the letter within the Senate. 84 legislator signatures were obtained and the letter was sent to Governor Baker in the afternoon on Wednesday, March 31.
We are grateful for the support of the legislature, and for the constituents who responded to our vaccine action alerts by sending nearly 3,000 letters and notified your Representatives and Senators to act on our behalf.
Having an intellectual or developmental disability is a top risk factor for COVID. 84 legislators joined our letter urging Gov. Baker to prioritize individuals with I/DD and their caregivers in the second phase of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine. #CovidVaccine #autismawareness pic.twitter.com/2SUyllcNJa
