Governor Baker Releases First Draft Of FY2021 State Budget, Including Key Increases For DDS Line Items

The Arc is grateful to the Governor for his proposed increases in the House 2 FY 2021 budget. The Department of Developmental Services has increases totaling approximately $50 million.  The Arc is especially thankful for the $7.8 million increase in Family Support, as well as the $7.8 million increase in the Autism Omnibus (adult autism) line items.

The other budget line items with increases to address the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities including autism are: Community Day and Work, Community Residential, and Transportation. Line items maintained include Turning 22, Children’s Autism Waiver, and DESE DDS.

We applaud the Governor’s increases totaling $160,000,000 in Chapter 257, including salary rate setting changes that will have positive effects on our workforce shortage crisis. The rates for Direct Support Professionals remain our top priority with a goal of $17 per hour for entry level and rates that increase based on DSP level as well as increasing rates annually.

Stay tuned to The Arc for more details and our next advocacy action steps.
