Many of you may have seen that the Massachusetts House of Representatives has been busy working on the passage of a $1.5 billion education bill. Timing is now such that we won’t get another session for Nicky’s Law until after the holiday break. The House is now in recess.
In the last three weeks since the bill was officially moved in to the House, we have had dozens of Representatives step up to prioritize this bill. We held important meetings with Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo and House Ways and Means Chair Aaron Michlewitz.
We are grateful to our sponsor, Representative Linda Dean Campbell; Chair Kay Khan; and Representative Josh Cutler for their work and dedication to this bill. We have also gained new supporters, including the Teamsters Local 25.
We are confident that due to all of these efforts, and all of the work that has been done with the help of the Disability Law Center of Massachusetts to come to a final version of the bill, the House will take up the bill early in the new year.
