The Arc Hosts Advocacy Session For Transition Age Students From Brockton

On Thursday, February 13, in addition to our annual Supporting Families Day, The Arc also coordinated a special legislative learning session for a group of nearly 30 students from Brockton.

The students ranged in ages from 18-22 and are part of the life skills and transition program at Champion High School.

Students were able to connect with their local legislators and their aides, including Senator Michael Brady of the Second Plymouth and Bristol District and Representative Claire Cronin of the 11th Plymouth District.  The students spoke with the legislators and learned about what they do, then discussed issues that are important to them.

The Brockton students also were treated to an interview with Brian Heffernan, a self-advocate who works in the State House in the offices of Governor Charlie Baker and House Speaker Robert DeLeo.

We’re so grateful for all who took part in this amazing learning session.
