The Arc of Massachusetts Sends Letter To Governor Baker Regarding Updated Federal Reimbursement For HCBS

On Friday, March 19, The Arc of Massachusetts sent Governor Baker a letter regarding the allocation of a federal reimbursement bump for Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) for one year included in the American Rescue Plan, the COVID relief package recently signed into law by President Biden.

We estimate the MA federal match for Department of Developmental Services (DDS) HCBS services will rise to 60% from 50%, which could bring over $80 million to DDS during this time frame (between April 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022).

In the letter, we lay out several important needs in MA’s HCBS programs that would be greatly benefited by this 10% FMAP bump and ultimately boost our state budget. It is critical that the urgent needs of the disability community are at the forefront of the Governor’s planning when allocating these additional federal dollars provided to the Commonwealth!
