2019 Sensitive Santa

The Arc of Massachusetts partnered with the Prudential Center, Boston to offer individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and autism the opportunity to meet Santa in a sensory friendly environment. The Sensitive Santa event was held on Sunday, December 8 at the Prudential Center. Children and families were able to have their photos taken with Santa Claus in a sensory friendly environment and at a relaxed pace. A partnership between The Arc of Massachusetts and Boston Properties made the festive event possible.

Thanks to the generosity of Boston Properties, all families in attendance were able to have their photos taken for free and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. Families also decorated their own wooden ornaments.

“The Arc's Sensitive Santa event was the first time our family has visited Santa, and it was a really positive experience for our boys,” said Kelly Quaye of Brookline, mother of two. “They loved seeing Santa, filled their bellies with chocolate chip cookies, and made a slew of holiday decorations at the craft table. We really appreciated the thought put into the details of this event to make it such a memorable holiday activity for our family.”

“As the mother of two sons with autism, this was a wonderful opportunity to take part in this holiday tradition. Oftentimes it is difficult for children with autism and other disabilities to visit with and have their photo taken with Santa because of sensory challenges, anxiety or behavioral challenges,” said Maura Sullivan, Director of Government Affairs and Operation House Call at The Arc of Massachusetts. “We are so grateful to Boston Properties for choosing us as their partner for this amazing, inclusive event at the Prudential Center.”
