On Tuesday, July 5, The Arc’s Senior Director of Government Affairs and Health Policy Maura Sullivan appeared on WBUR to discuss The Arc’s current healthcare priority bills with Josie Guarino. The audio of this interview is available below.

“One bill (S 2615) would codify and expand Operation House Call, a nationally-recognized training program that teaches essential skills for communicating with and caring for patients with IDD and autism to more than 1,000 medical students each year. The Public Health Committee gave the legislation (which it redrafted) a favorable report, as has the Committee on Health Care Financing. It is currently pending before the Senate Committee on Ways and Means.
The Arc’s other priority bill (H 219), which it said was developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association, would establish training programs, statewide standards of care, and continuing education requirements for certain hospital-based medical providers. It would also create an advisory committee on IDD and autism with representation from state officials, health care providers, patient advocates and family members, and five statewide trade organizations.”
