Celebrating the Passage of Two Priority Bills in the FY 2023 Budget!

The Arc of Massachusetts is delighted to announce that two of our priority bills have been passed: Higher Education Opportunities for People with IDD and Autism (Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative) and the establishment of a special commission to study and report on the history of state institutions. Many thanks to The Arc community for advocating for these bills and their amendments to the FY23 budget.
Operation House Call Student is a Powerful Policy Advocate

Naaz Daneshvar is a third-year medical student at UMass Chan Medical School. Earlier this year, she became a policy advocate by testifying for legislation to provide training for medical students in best practices for patients with autism and IDD (S2615 Operation House Call). Naaz wrote this powerful letter to the Boston Globe. It was published on July 22.
Our Legislature: Setting a Path Beyond the COVID Pandemic

As we wrapped up this issue of Advocate, The Arc reported on the positive 2023 budget from our legislature which would result in assistance to over 6,000 additional persons. If we include the proposed increases by Governor Charlie Baker, the budget advanced eight line items in the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), ranging from residential to family support and everything in between!
The Dana Home Foundation Awards Grant to The Arc of Massachusetts
A grant from the Dana Home Foundation, which dedicates its resources in pursuit of the care, comfort, and wellbeing of Lexington seniors, will help The Arc provide opportunities for older caregivers of adults with disabilities to learn about resources in the community and begin Future Planning for their loved one.
