Since launching our partnership with UMass Chan Medical School at the end of September, Operation House Call has already received wonderful feedback from students in the program about what a difference the OHC lessons and visits with participants with IDD and their families are making in their learning.
Here are two testimonials from current UMass Chan Medical OHC students.
“I really enjoyed the experience and I’m glad it’s part of our curriculum and learning, I learned a lot from the class and meeting the family member I spoke with. My attitude toward the program is overwhelmingly positive and [I'm] hopeful it will make a big difference in care.”
“Operation House Call is a fantastic opportunity for us as medical students to develop an appreciation for what it means to live with a significant developmental difference. By gaining an insight into the lives and stories of these families, not only do we get to prepare ourselves to provide care to this patient population and their loved ones, but we are able to build confidence and learn effective strategies for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Healthcare history has not often been kind to this community, and Operation House Call allows us to see and hear for ourselves what we can do to make a difference in the future.”
