Please help us increase the support in the legislature for one of The Arc’s priority bills: H212, An Act requiring Universal Changing tables in public buildings.
Use our action alert to ask your Representative and Senator to please sign on to this legislation to show support before the bill goes to hearing in September.
The bill is simple. It will require new construction and reconstruction in public buildings to include at least one universal changing station within an enclosed restroom. Lack of universal changing tables limits community inclusion for people who require help with daily self-care, such as toileting.
These individuals have the right to experience and enjoy trips away from home without suffering the indignity and medical risk of being left in a soiled diaper for an extended period, or being changed somewhere inappropriate, unhygienic, or unsafe.
Too often, decisions are made to avoid venturing into the community due to this lack of accommodations.
