The Opportunity

Join The Arc of Massachusetts and help shape policies that transform the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism and their families across the Commonwealth. We are seeking a highly organized and collaborative Government Affairs Associate to join our dedicated team, reporting directly to the Director of Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships. 

This role is ideal for a proactive team player with excellent organizational and communication skills, experience in Massachusetts and/or federal government or politics, and a personal connection to or strong interest in disability advocacy. A bachelor’s degree with a related professional background is required.

Responsibilities 

  • Actively participate in advocacy efforts, including building relationships at the State House, providing testimony, and supporting individual community advocates 
  • Coordinate, track, and analyze budget and policy proposals from the state legislature, executive branch, and federal government
  • Draft compelling testimony and prepare impactful advocacy materials for priorities
  • Conduct research on policy issues and prepare information for the team and broader community
  • Collaborate on the development of communications materials
  • Provide essential support for event planning, including for advocacy days, legislative briefings, and advocacy trainings 
  • Facilitate management of The Arc’s Government Affairs Committee and contribute to meetings
  • Respond to inquiries and provide guidance and resources to support the advocacy efforts of individuals and families
  • Help with administrative tasks across The Arc as needed  

Salary & Benefits 

  • This is a 30-hour per week position with a salary range of $55,000-$60,000 per year. A competitive benefits package is available.
  • Role is based in Waltham, with travel required as needed to the State House or community events. Some hybrid work is possible.
