On Thursday, May 15, The Arc of Massachusetts welcomed over 80 guests to our 2025 Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony, which was graciously hosted by the Charles River Center in Needham. The evening began with an empowering video message from Governor Maura Healey followed by the business meeting, where we recognized Janet Sweeney Rico’s many years of dedicated leadership as outgoing Board President.
After the business meeting, attendees were deeply moved by Betsy Johnson’s powerful poem, “The Mathematics of Mercy,” which was recently shared on the floor of the House of Representatives by Congressman Jake Auchincloss. We were honored to welcome State Senator Cindy Friedman, who offered an inspiring message of commitment and hope for the future.
“As we look ahead to the challenges that lie before us, please know this: The Arc of Massachusetts will be unwavering in our commitment to lead the way,” said CEO Maura Sullivan during her remarks. “Safeguarding the vital services and supports for people with disabilities is our absolute North Star. We stand strong together to protect the rights of our community against those who seek to undermine them. Your continued connection is essential. We’ve all worked really hard this past year, and I extend my deepest gratitude for your dedication. Now, with the challenges on the horizon, I’m asking us all to double down our efforts in the coming year.”
The evening concluded with recognition of five outstanding advocates:
- Catherine Boyle (President of Autism Housing Pathways and Government Affairs Committee member)
- Donna Brown (Vice President at The Arc of Bristol County and part of the organization for over 45 years)
- Charlie Fiske (Government Relations Specialist at The Arc of Massachusetts for over a decade)
- Betsy Johnson (Operation House Call instructor and parent advocate)
- Jarod Wyman (self-advocate and member of an Operation House Call host family).
Congratulations again to all our awardees!
