COVID-19: Important Update on MassHealth

By January 26, 2023No Comments

When the COVID pandemic began in March 2020, the federal government declared a Public Health Emergency (PHE), which included “continuous Medicaid enrollment”, i.e., everyone who already had Medicaid was required to continue receiving Medicaid — even if they were no longer eligible for that Medicaid category.

The federal government has determined that the “continuous Medicaid enrollment” requirement will be ending; therefore, everyone who has Massachusetts Medicaid (MassHealth) will need to complete a redetermination application.

MassHealth will begin mailing Medicaid redetermination applications to everyone who is enrolled. These renewal applications will be mailed over a period of 12 months.

Whenever a caregiver of an individual with an intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) receives a letter from MassHealth, it is very important to respond promptly. Keeping MassHealth for individuals with IDD is essential because if there is a lapse in coverage, then services will also be halted.

What you need to do:

  • Update your contact information. Make sure MassHealth has your most up to date address, phone number, and email so you do not miss important information and notices from MassHealth.
  • Report any household changes. These include a new job, address, changes to your income, disability status, or pregnancy. MassHealth wants to make sure we have the latest information for you and all members of your household, so you get the best benefit you qualify for.
  • Create an MA Login Account. An MA Login Account is the fastest way to renew your MassHealth and Health Connector coverage, update your information, and report changes to your household. Current members under the age of 65 can create an account by following the link provided on the back of your MassHealth notices or by visiting mass.gov/masshealthlogin.
  • Read all mail from MassHealth. MassHealth will mail you information about your health benefit that may require you to take action to keep your current coverage. Look out for a blue envelope in the mail and make note of the important deadlines
