My senate district, the Second Suffolk, encompasses many sections of Boston including the South End, Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill and parts of Dorchester. As Chair of the Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities Committee and on five other committees, I’m aware of the challenges faced by families and individuals dealing with developmental disabilities. I was proud this year to work successfully on legislation that will greatly improve the lives of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through the efforts of The Arc and other service organizations we are achieving the goal “that persons with disabilities enjoy the same rights and respect for their dignity and privacy, as do people without disabilities.”
