On June 17, The Arc of Massachusetts sent a letter about the importance of Medicaid to Senator Warren and Senator Markey. This letter was filled with your stories – your raw, honest passion, fears, and experiences.

Nearly 600 members of our community recently shared their concerns about federal Medicaid cuts through our Community Check-In Survey. Those stories show the human impact of Medicaid cuts, and move all of us to action. We included just a few of those stories in this letter, including:

  • “My child would not be able to get the supports or services they need to be fully independent. Without services, my child will struggle in school, social situations, and would not be able to survive as an independent adult.”
  • “I would not have coverage for medicine to keep my seizures stable.”
  • “I can’t even think about where we would be.  We are aging parents trying to keep our son at home for as long as possible, but without supports I don’t know what will happen.  It is hard enough with limited supports that any cuts could be devastating to our family.”

These quotes, among so many others, say it all: our community is strong, but these cuts are real and deep. Sharing stories is what advocacy is all about.

We are also excited to announce the relaunch of our Community Check-In Survey, which will run continuously and allow you to share your stories of how you have been, or may be, impacted by federal cuts.

Let’s make our stories heard.
