As part of this year’s election results, the disability community has lost two of its greatest champions.
Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown (D) has lost his re-election bid. Senator Brown has served in the Senate since 2007 and has been an ardent supporter of the disability community, supporting many of The Arc’s national initiatives including the bipartisan SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act and efforts to advocate on behalf of home and community-based services (HCBS). We thank Senator Brown for his years of advocacy.
Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey (D) has also lost his re-election bid in a close race that was not called until the afternoon of Thursday, November 7. Senator Casey has also served in the Senate since 2007 and has been a longtime supporter of disability issues including the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, HCBS, the Better Care Better Jobs Act, and the Build Back Better Plan. We thank Senator Casey for his years of advocacy as well.
