In this new video message, CEO Maura Sullivan provides a response to the passage of the federal budget, including an outline of what harm the budget will do to our community ($1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid) and how The Arc of Massachusetts will be advocating as we prepare for the fights ahead.

Video transcript:

Hi, everyone.

I hope you had a restful holiday weekend.

We all deserved a break after last week’s devastating and incomprehensible outcomes of the Big Ugly Bill being signed by the President.

I’m proud of our congressional delegation, who tirelessly rejected this bill on behalf of the people of Massachusetts as morally and fiscally damaging.

The impact to Medicaid has soared to over a trillion dollars in cuts, and an early analysis, according to the State House News, says the impact here could be upwards of $20 billion over the next decade.

So where does that leave us?

First, taking a deep breath and being grateful to live in Massachusetts. And second, digging in with our state lawmakers harder than ever.

The Arc is coordinating and joining forces with our partners across the state. We aim to communicate with power and clarity from a united voice.

Of course, so many of us are feeling angry, disgusted, and scared. I get it, especially as a parent of two young adults with autism and IDD.

But one thing I can tell you is that you are not alone.

We need to channel our frustration into action. This crisis only brings us back to our mission. The Arc will double down on that mission to safeguard our vital services without fail.

But we need all of you, your ideas, your stories, and to stay closely connected.

Massachusetts must step up for those with IDD and autism, from services and supports to healthcare and more. We must fight against hate, racism, ableism, and more attacks on our liberties.

This is now a marathon, so please find your strength, but also prioritize your rest.

Please reach out if you need support.

The Arc is here.

Thank you. I am grateful for this community.
