Today, we are excited to share that the Massachusetts State Senate has voted to expand the protections of Nicky’s Law/Dana’s Law to those receiving services in MassHealth-funded Day Habilitation programs. The Arc, alongside hundreds of advocates, led the effort to pass the original abuse registry, which was signed into law in 2020. Today, we are one step closer to closing a loophole that has left some of the most vulnerable individuals unprotected for far too long.

Thank you to Senator Mike Moore for his ongoing leadership on this bill. We also want to thank Senate President Karen Spilka, Senate Ways and Means Chair Michael Rodrigues, and Senate Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities Chair Robyn Kennedy for their efforts on this bill.

The Arc is also always deeply grateful for Nicky, Dana, their families, and our advocates who have continuously fought for the expansion of Nicky’s Law/Dana’s Law! We are excited and hopeful as we keep pushing for this bill to become law.
