Lee’s Story

Walking“My 22-year old son has Down syndrome. As a single father, my biggest challenge is being my son’s only caretaker. It means that I can’t work and we have to depend on his SSI and food stamps. My son requires assistance with all ADL (Activities of Daily Living) and I have to be there for him 24/7, with the exception of the time he is in his day program. Every morning, I get my son ready to go to his day program. When he comes back in the afternoon, we eat dinner and, if the weather permits, we go for a walk, bathe, then sleep. As a leukemia survivor, I am grateful that my son is healthy, but I am emotionally exhausted and stressed out.”              – Lee, Charlestown Continue reading
