360 Degree Communication is excited to announce the upcoming release of LIFE, ANIMATED (LIFE). LIFE is the real-life story of Owen Suskind, the son of the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind and his wife, Cornelia. An autistic boy who couldn’t speak for years, Owen memorized dozens of Disney movies, turned them into a language to express love and loss, kinship, brotherhood. The family was forced to become animated characters, communicating with him in Disney dialogue and song. Until they all emerge, together, revealing how, in darkness, we all literally need stories to survive.
The Arc of Massachusetts is delighted to announce that our 2016 Gala Passion as Pathway… will be held on Wednesday, November 16. We will be honoring Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and best-selling author Ron Suskind. Ron has written several important works of nonfiction, including Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism, which chronicles his family’s twenty-year struggle with their son Owen’s autism. The book is the foundation of Life, Animated, a film which Ron produced.
The Arc of Massachusetts would like to thank everyone who supported our work by making a contribution during our 2015-2016 fiscal year. We deeply appreciate your commitment to ensuring that all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have opportunities to lead full lives in the community.
“My 22-year old son has Down syndrome. As a single father, my biggest challenge is being my son’s only caretaker. It means that I can’t work and we have to depend on his SSI and food stamps. My son requires assistance with all ADL (Activities of Daily Living) and I have to be there for him 24/7, with the exception of the time he is in his day program. Every morning, I get my son ready to go to his day program. When he comes back in the afternoon, we eat dinner and, if the weather permits, we go for a walk, bathe, then sleep. As a leukemia survivor, I am grateful that my son is healthy, but I am emotionally exhausted and stressed out.” – Lee, Charlestown
