At 11:00AM on Wednesday, August 9, Governor Maura Healey signed a $56 billion state budget. There are some vetoes in the budget, and one which affects our community.

We are disappointed that the $2 million in additional funds added by the Legislature for the children’s autism waiver was reduced. The administration has noted that they don’t believe the additional funds can be spent in this fiscal year. We can help support a veto override.

We are pleased, however, that other major investments which were made by the Governor and legislature are now signed into law, including:

  • $200 million in MassHealth Day programs (workforce impact)
  • $173 million for chapter 257 (workforce impact)
  • Significant increases for Turning 22, Family Support, Adult Autism Omnibus
  • Other legislative amendments:
    • $3.1 million and language for those needing 1:1 supports for day services
    • Language and funding for Operation House Call

Thank you to the Governor, Speaker, Senate President, Chairs of Ways and Means Committees, and our champions in the legislature and all of you who were engaged in the advocacy.
