As the 193rd legislative session winds down, there are two bills we hope to advance before the session ends.
House Bill 4393, “An Act updating terminology and investigative practices related to the protection of persons with disabilities,” includes an important expansion of Nicky’s Law into the MassHealth Day Habilitation program. Employers of Day Habilitation are not required to check the registry.
House Bill 172 and Senate Bill 1401 advance Hospital Training to Enhance Healthcare for People with Autism and IDD. It would establish training programs, statewide standards of care, and continuing education requirements for certain hospital-based medical providers. It would also create an advisory committee on IDD and autism with representation from state officials, health care providers, patient advocates and family members, and five statewide trade organizations.
