Dear Operation House Call Supporters and Disability Healthcare Advocates,

Our efforts to pass the Operation House Call amendment on the House side were successful!  Now, please take a few minutes to support this Senate amendment!

The Arc is grateful to Senator Jason Lewis, our champion for this legislation for many sessions.  Senator Lewis filed amendment #403. This important amendment will allow Operation House Call to sustain and grow its unique programming at our medical and nursing schools and beyond in MA.

Operation House Call (OHC) teaches future medical professionals essential skills to enhance the health care of persons with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Offered by The Arc of Massachusetts, OHC turns to families, parents, and individual self-advocates as educators in a health care field that seldom focuses on more than making a diagnosis. It is a rare and important training opportunity. Through OHC, students begin to build confidence and interest in working with individuals with I/DD, including autism, and their families.

OHC is currently partnering with 4 Medical Schools and 2 Graduate Nursing programs in MA including Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston University School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, UMass Chan Medical School, Simmons University, and UMASS Graduate School of Nursing.

For any questions, please contact Maura Sullivan, Senior Director of Government Affairs and Health Policy for The Arc, at sullivan@arcmass.org

Thank you for your advocacy for inclusive and quality healthcare for people with autism and IDD.
