On Wednesday, December 17, CEO Maura Sullivan and Director of Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships Nora Bent were honored to stand alongside dozens of legislators and advocates as Governor Maura Healey signed legislation to finally make the records of former state institution patients public.
This is more than just a policy change; it is an act of justice. By opening these records, we are restoring dignity to families and ensuring that the stories of former residents are never forgotten. As we look back on this history, we gain the tools to build a more inclusive and human-rights-centered future.
The Arc is grateful for our partnership with these advocates and lawmakers. Special thanks to Governor Healey, Representative Sean Garballey, Senator Mike Barrett, Representative Antonio Cabral, Representative Mindy Domb, and the advocates and families who shared their personal histories to secure this legacy.
