The Arc of Massachusetts recently collaborated with The Arc of the United States to hold two focus groups to hear from people with IDD and their family members about the best ways to educate healthcare providers about people with IDD who have experienced sexual violence.
The focus groups heard about the Operation House Call model, as well as other trainings happening through state chapters of The Arc. Feedback on each program was collected.
Discussions also centered around how to increase patient-centered conversations; how to increase reporting of sexual violence; and how to decrease discomfort talking about sexual violence with patients with IDD/ASD.
