On Wednesday, June 24, The Arc of Massachusetts CEO Maura Sullivan was officially recognized as a 2026 Commonwealth Heroine by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women. Maura was nominated for this incredible honor by State Representative Tom Stanley.

“Whether in her personal life or professional career, Maura has done so much to make Waltham a better place,” Rep. Stanley stated. “Prior to her role as CEO, Maura was an extremely successful advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism and their families. Her achievements include Nicky’s Law, Police Training in Autism, and statewide adoption and public funding of Operation House Call. Her leadership and advocacy have supported so many individuals and their caregivers in the Waltham community and beyond. Waltham is extremely fortunate to have Maura and The Arc call our great city home.”

This award recognizes women who are leaders in industry, business, nonprofit, advocacy, and more, and their work truly makes a difference in local communities all across the state.

“It is amazing to stand with such an extraordinary group of change-makers,” Maura said. “My deepest thanks to State Representative Tom Stanley for his nomination and ongoing strong partnership. This honor is a direct reflection of work I do with my team at The Arc of Massachusetts and for my sons, Neil and Tyler. I’m so grateful to represent and advocate for this community every day. Sharing this day with my daughter, Gillian, made it extra special! Thank you to Rep. Stanley, the Commission, my phenomenal team, and my family for walking this path with me. The work continues!”
