Over the past few months, over 170 students from Harvard Medical School (HMS) have been warmly welcomed by almost 50 host families in the Operation House Call (OHC) network. These home visits continue and expand student learning after their in-school didactic session with OHC in late summer.

At Harvard, OHC reaches students as they are entering their second year of studies; we teach both medical and dental students during this pre-clerkship year. We are thrilled to reach these young dental and medical students with our unique experiential learning program, and the student reflections demonstrate the crucial impact OHC has on their growth.

“Operation House Call gave me more than an introduction to the realities of caring for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It reshaped how I think about my role as a future provider as someone who doesn’t deliver care in a vacuum, but as a partner who must be attentive to the small but powerful ways that care can be adapted to truly fit the individual.” – Harvard School of Dental Medicine Student, Fall 2025.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedicated host families who shared their time and stories with the students. Host families are the heart and soul of OHC!
