On Wednesday, April 1, the Operation House Call team had the privilege of educating and inspiring another group of first-year medical students at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester. Curious and highly engaged students learned from four unique family and individual perspectives, deepening their understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism.

Co-teachers Julia Cobb and Ryan Horrigan shared important first-person insights, helping students better understand the accommodations, communication strategies, and mindset shifts essential to providing truly inclusive care.

Next, students will take their learning beyond the classroom and into the community through home visits with families in the OHC host network. These meaningful experiences not only reinforce classroom learning, but also empower individuals and families to lead as educators by sharing their lived experiences to shape a more compassionate, inclusive healthcare system.
